Eastern High School Opens Health Center

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) -- Over 50 people gathered at Eastern High School this afternoon for the unveiling of the school's new health center.

The center gives students and members of the community access to health care at the school, 220 North Pennsylvania Ave.

"This center will give students access to health care they need on-site, rather than missing school and staying home," said Ingham County Health Department Board Member Nino Rodriguez. "We need healthy students in school and good health is an important part of the education process."

The health center is Ingham County's third school-based health center. It will provide primary physical, social and psychological care to approximately 1,600 people.

"We recognize accessible health care is going to where the patients and clients are," said Ingham County Health Officer Renee Canady. "It's critically important. If we don't begin to do things differently, in community and with community, we'll continue to see the poor health outcomes that we see."

The center is open throughout the entire year for anyone between the ages of 10 and 21.
