Jackson Offers Produce to Convenience Stores


JACKSON, Mich. (WLNS) - Jackson kicked-off a push to make locally owned convenience stores healthier.

The Jackson County Health Department gave the stores produce displays to sell fresh produce so area residents can walk to their corner store for fresh fruit and veggies. The department says 37 percent of Jackson County residents are either overweight or obese.



Fresh produce at the particpiating stores in Jackson include Stop One, Greenwood Food Market and Keyes Party Store.

It can be purchased with food stamps or through WIC at just a dollar a piece, the same price as a candy bar. Click on the Seen on 6 link to find out more.
