Police Video Shows Officer Hit by Vehicle

COLUMBIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Video from a police car in southern Michigan shows an officer being struck by a vehicle following a traffic stop as the suspect speeds away.

The Jackson Citizen Patriot reports Columbia Township police Officer Rick Rodden was struck April 20 after the motorist got back in a car and took off. Police say Rodden ended up pursing the suspect, and subdued him with a stun gun before arresting him.

Police say Rodden wasn't badly injured after being struck in Jackson County's Columbia Township, about 60 miles southwest of Detroit.

Police this week released a copy of the video. Police Chief David Elwell says the situation "could have been a lot worse in a lot of ways."
