Ted Nugent Not Happy With Pure Michigan Campaign

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - One of music's true rock stars had some not so nice things to say about michigan's tourism campaign and how it promotes hunting in the state.

The Pure Michigan Campaign says they do plenty to promote it. But Thursday, the Motor City madman himself, Ted Nugent, went on radio, Michigan's Big Show, and said that he doesn't think so.

"The Pure Michigan Campaign is basically a facade when we know the #1 tourist attraction in Michigan is Cabela's, and the great outdoors hunting and fishing and trapping lifestyle, how dare, how dare the Pure Michigan Campaign not mention any of that," Ted Nugent.

The campaign has websites dedicated to advertising hunting and fishing, along with TV ads that promote the perfect fishing spots throughout the state. That's why Travel Michigan's Michelle Begnoche couldn't believe what Nugent said.

"We were surprised because it is so opposite of what we are actually doing," said Begnoche.

You won't see any dead animals on the covers of their travel brochures like Nugent wants, but back in October, Pure Michigan made it a priority to promote outdoor life.

"We're doing a lot to promote hunting and fishing. We think that these are great activities here in Michigan. We're really proud of what we have to offer the hunters and anglers out there," said Begnoche.

The two sides haven't sat down to talk about it just yet, but the campaign says that Nugent's strong words give them a chance to show what they are doing.
