Meridian Township Excited About Potential Job Growth

The expansion of Jackson National Life is one that if approved, would impact nearly every community around it, From Alaiedon township to Lansing and Okemos.

Our Nick Perreault went to Meridian township, an area that has reaped the benefits of having jackson national life nearby and found out many hope that continues.

"It's really proof that the recession is over and that we are really in a great recovery mode," said Meridian Township Treasures Julie Brixie.

And here's the proof, a $100 million dollar facility expansion at Jackson National Life, bringing 1000 new jobs with it and the best part for Julie Brixie, it's all happening just down the road from Meridian Township.

"I think the whole Lansing region in general has a lot of different insurance industries and it's proven to be good for our local economy," Brixie said.

They say, the proof is in the pudding, just ask Gilbert and Blake's grill.

"Jackson National has actually been some of our best customers over the past nine years, they come into lunch very frequently,probably two three times a week, to hear they are going to be expanding and there are people going to be working in that facility is really amazing news to me, I think that's great," said Gilbert and Blake's Grill General Manager Lance Davis.

Offering more opportunity for businesses to cash in, but it also has property owners, excited as well.

"We have a lot of current residents that live at Club Meridian that currently work at Jackson National life so it could be a good thing," said Management Stephanie Puzjak.

Stephanie Puzjak says residents have filled most of the units in her apartment complex over the last year,but she would welcome any future Jackson employees to fill any vacancies.

Brixie says another positive of the investment from Jackson National Life Insurance, the prospect of filling seats in district classrooms.

"Most of them are suffering from declining enrollment do to the fact that our community is aging," Brixie said.

So many hope the expansion of jackson national life will provide jobs and potential economic growth,but more importantly they want this move to lay the groundwork for a bright future ahead.

The expansion will also benefit the meridian township fire department.

Township officials recently signed an agreement to provide fire services for the Alaiedon township facility.
