GRAND LEDGE, Mich. (WLNS) - 300 family members and friends bid farewell Wednesday to a group of local soldiers who are going to Afghanistan.
50 members of the Grand Ledge-based Aviation Battalion are now on their way to Fort Hood, Texas for training for two months. They will then leave for a 10-month deployment.
The group is made up of pilots, flight medics and crew chiefs. Captain Randy Knowles says the mission will be to provide air support to those injured on the battlefields.
Governor Snyder was also at the deployment ceremony. In his speech, he called it a "difficult, but proud day."
