Mount Pleasant Crews Respond to Dozens of Fires

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) - Authorities in Mount Pleasant say they responded to about 40 fire calls in recent days in areas where Central Michigan University students live.

Police say the fires started Thursday night and others were reported through Sunday. No injuries were reported.

Police say all of the about 40 fires in the mid-Michigan community were in large trash receptacles or included furniture that had been set ablaze. They say that while responding to one fire they caught four people trying to burn a dresser near an apartment complex.

Mount Pleasant Fire Chief Greg Walterhouse tells the Morning Sun of Mount Pleasant that the fires are dangerous and "waste of resources."

Central Michigan University's commencement ceremonies were Saturday, officially ending the school year.
