Jackson Officials Honor Officers Killed on Duty

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, Mich. (WLNS) - Jackson Police officers who gave their lives in the line of duty were honored and remembered Wednesday at the annual Jackson Police Memorial Service.

10 law enforcement officers who died between 1906 and 2010 were honored. One man who passed away last year after he was retired was also honored.

"It's important that people realize the danger that officers put their lives in each and every day and come and support them and show them that we do value them," said Joyce Bostwick, whose father died during a shoot out in 1978. She was 21 at the time. "It was hard. It took me 10 years to accept it. It's still hard coming here every year."

The JPD held the service along with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department and Michigan State Police. It was at Bucky Harris Park in downtown Jackson at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Jackson Street.
