LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - A car fire caused extensive traffic back-ups in Lansing Wednesday afternoon.

It happened on southbound US-127 at I-496 around 1:20p.m.

Fire officials say it took about two hours to put out the flames.

Police say that after the car caught fire, the two occupants jumped out of the moving vehicle. It pulled onto the shoulder of the expressway, which then started a brush fire.

Both people in the vehicle were taken to a local hospital to recover. Their names were not immediately released.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
