WESTLAND, Mich. (AP) - Gov. Rick Snyder has ordered U.S. flags lowered at state buildings around Michigan to honor a firefighter killed battling a blaze in suburban Detroit.

29-year-old Westland firefighter Brian Woehlke was killed Wednesday in a fire at a strip mall in the western Detroit suburb.

Snyder said in a statement Sunday that Woehlke "is an example of the brave men and women" who protect Michigan communities every day.

Visitation is 2-9 p.m. Sunday at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home in Wayne. The funeral is at 11 a.m. Monday at the Church of the Divine Child in Dearborn.

Woehlke is survived by his wife Jennifer and their daughter Ava.
