Michigan Democrats to Introduce Women's Health Bills

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Michigan Democrats are introducing legislation they say will improve women's access to health care.

Minority Democrats in the state House and Senate on Monday announced legislation they plan to introduce this week.

One bill would mandate that health facilities provide emergency contraception to rape victims.

Another bill would require that "age appropriate, medically accurate and objective sexuality education" is taught in Michigan's public schools. House Minority Leader Tim Greimel says some school districts already have such programs, but it is very "hit-or-miss" depending on the school district.

Republican House Speaker Jase Bolger spokesman Ari Adler says he hasn't yet seen the proposed legislation. He says Republicans will consider any proposal as long as it's a "serious proposal and not one that is designed to simply stir up politics."
