Man Behind Bars After Attempting to Steal ATM

JACKSON, Mich. (WLNS) - A Jackson man is behind bars Monday after he tried to steal an ATM from the foyer of a credit union.

It happened Monday around 7:40a.m. on the 700 block of Michigan Ave. at the American 1 Credit Union.

Officials say they found the 31-year-old man with a white vehicle backed to the front entrance of the credit union. An investigation showed he damaged two ATMs inside the foyer, before hooking a strap to one of the machines and attempting to pull it out of the entrance with his vehicle.

He's currently being held at the Jackson County Jail facing charges of malicious destruction of property and larceny of an ATM.
