Plans Underway for 'Cure Diabetes' Walk

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Plans are underway for the annual East Lansing Walk to Cure Diabetes. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation held a breakfast Thursday morning to give people the opportunity to learn more about the walk and meet local business leaders supporting it.

Last year, the walk raised $435,000 that organizers say helps fund vital research.

"The progress that the research that we are funding is making is making great strides, so through better technologies whether its delivery of insulin, insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitors, we're on the verge of the artificial pancreas which is a really exciting leading edge development," said Kate Durak, the executive director of JDRF.

If you're interested in participating in the one or three mile walk, it will take place on Michigan State's campus August 3rd starting at 9:30a.m.
