MSU Moves Gas Pumps Away From Stadium for Safety Reasons

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - The Department of Homeland Security conducted a study just a few years ago on Spartan Stadium and found a potential security hazard.

The gasoline tanks located on the east side of the stadium will be relocated. Michigan State Athletics and university police have decided that it would be best to move the refueling area away from where 75,000 fans go to watch football games.

The decision to move the tanks have been in talks for many years, but recently, there have been more tragic events like the Boston Bombing, which has MSU changing the way they handle security

"As we go through and evaluate how we keep our guests safe at our events, this was just the next logical progression as we go through and review these things," said Greg Ianni, the depputy director of athletics at MSU.

The pumps will be removed before the upcoming football season and the new refueling area is going to be located about a mile away at Service and Farm Lane roads.
