Volunteers Spend Day Cleaning Up Capitol Grounds

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - About 30 volunteers spent the day giving the capitol grounds a facelift. They added new soil and sod and updated the sprinkler system.

Those who donated their time to beautify the landscape say it's important to take pride in what the capitol represents.

"The capitol lawn is used quite often for everyone that wants to exercise their constitutional rights, so the landscape gets a little use out of it," said Amy Frankmann, the executive director for the Michigan Nursery and Landscape Association.

Governor Rick Snyder proclaimed May to be "Plant Michigan Green" month.
