Ceremony Honors WWII Veterans

JACKSON, Mich. (WLNS) - A ceremony at Jackson County Airport honored World War II veterans on Friday.

The Aviator Bust and Monument at Reynolds Field was dedicated to about 75 young men who voluntarily trained to become pilots. All of them went on to serve in the war. Many who returned home, were awarded Medals of Honor.

It was a national program that was provided through Jackson Junior College.

"Anyone who has roots in Jackson, family, friends, in some way is connected to people on this list, most of them are gone now, but what they did was instrumental in the success," said Steve Wellman with the Experimental Aircraft Association.

The monument was funded entirely through community donations.
