Student Gets Surprise Check Worth Thousands

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - A local student got a big surprise in the form of a free private high school education.

Rachel Smith, a student at Lansing Charter Academy, received a check Friday for more than $7,000. She won a national essay contest and as her prize, she will receive up to $10,000 a year over the next four years to put towards her high school tuition.

Rachel is currently an 8th grade and has decided to attend Lansing Christian High School.
