Police Say Jackson Man Beaten to Death by Girlfriend

Police found a Jackson man dead in his apartment early this morning, and they've ruled it a homicide.

Neighbors say their block on Lansing Avenue in Jackson is normally quiet, but that wasn't the case today.

"At 3:00 a.m., officers were dispatched to an address on the 700 block of Lansing Avenue for a call of a man bleeding," said Jackson Police Sargeant Adam Williams.

Williams says by the time police arrived, the man was already dead –the victim of an apparent homicide.

Police say he was beaten to death with multiple blunt objects.

"Our investigation lead us to a thirty year old acquaintance of our victim," said Williams.

Police say that suspect, a woman whom they believe is the victims girlfriend, is now in custody.

Stephany Matherson, a neighbor, says the victim and his girlfriend had a noticeably abusive relationship.

"He didn't like the relationship with her, he said he hated her. They were abusive toward each other, she was more abusive towards him," said Matherson, "Nine thirty ten o'clock they just started screaming at each other. Next thing you know, 3:36 this morning, we had cops at my door."

Police say shortly after arriving at the home, they began the search for their suspect and found her a few blocks away from the apartment.

They aren't releasing the identities of the victim or the suspect yet, and say the investigation is ongoing.

The suspect is being held at the Jackson County jail. Officials at the jail say she could be arraigned as early as Monday.
