Woman Held On Charges for Beating Boyfriend to Death

JACKSON, Mich. (WLNS) - Camia Gamet, 30, was arraigned Monday in front of Judge Daryl Mazur on homicide charges for the alleged beating death of her boyfriend.

Officials say the incident happened Saturday at an apartment on the 700 block of Lansing Avenue in Jackson.

Marcel Hill, 38, was found dead after police say Gamet beat him with blunt objects.

Assistant Prosecutor Mark Blumer told the court she has a history of violence, with domestic violence charges in at least two other states. "[Gamet] presents a danger to the public if she's immediately released," Blumer said.

Last month, she was jailed and charged with felonious assault. Hill's family alleges she hit him in the head with a hammer, but the charges were dropped when Hill refused to cooperate with the prosecution. Jackson County Prosecutor Jerry Jarzynka says is common with domestic abuse cases.

"Many times as part of that cycle the victim really believes that he or she is at fault and there's enormous pressure not to cooperate or testify against the defendant," said Jarzynka.

Neighbors commented that the suspect and the victim had a noticeably abusive relationship.
