Gas Prices Skyrocket Ahead Of Holiday Weekend

Well, $3.99 and 9/10ths of a cent may not make it seem like people are paying $4 a gallon.

But if you live in mid-Michigan, that's what you'll likely pay if you fill up ahead of the holiday weekend.

As of about noon on Wednesday, the GasBuddy website listed prices in the greater Lansing area as low as $3.75. The cheapest gas around Jackson was $3.85.

But most stations showed prices at $3.99 - and some stations showed prices as high as $4.09.

Experts say gas prices are higher in the Midwest than they are in New York or California.

They blame problems at an Illnois refinery.

Mid-Michigan residents say the high prices are forcing them to change their holiday plans.

When asked on the WLNS-TV Facebook page if people were traveling for the long weekend, many said no.

"Not with these gas prices!" said Sharon Mitchell. "I'll spend my gas money on food for the grill!"
