Teen Hits Gas for 100 MPH Chase With Police

Posted:

HOWELL, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a 13-year-old Livingston County boy led police on a 100 mph car chase that ended in Oakland County.

Five teens were riding in a Jeep Grand Cherokee when a state trooper tried to stop the vehicle for having no rear lights after midnight Wednesday.

Sgt. Mark Thompson says the driver refused to stop, starting a chase that lasted 25 minutes and extended to Interstate 96. The driver eventually lost control and crashed into trees.

The driver and a 14-year-old passenger tried to flee on foot but were captured and taken into custody on several charges. They're lodged at a Washtenaw County juvenile detention facility. Alcohol is considered a factor.

Three other teens were released to their parents.
