Big Festival Weekend Kicks Off Tonight

If you're looking for something to do in mid-Michigan this weekend, there's no shortage of events taking place.

Five events in particular, promise to draw hundreds or thousands of people to enjoy good food, drink, and music.

  • Festival of the Moon and Sun in Old Town Lansing
  • Rockapalooza in Jackson
  • Summer Solstice Jazz Festival in East Lansing
  • Yankee Doodle Days in Grand Ledge
  • Red Cedar Jubilee in Williamston
  • All four events kick off on Friday.

The Festival of the Moon and Sun is a ticketed event, so anyone who wants to go to those will have to pay for them. Tickets for the Festival of the Moon (Friday night) and the Sun (Saturday) can be purchased separately. A combo ticket offers a better deal.

Rockapalooza is free on Friday night, but you must purchase tickets for the day-long concert on Saturday. There's also Countrypalooza at the Jackson County Fairgrounds on Sunday.

Both events offer special VIP tickets, as well.

The Summer Solstice festival in East Lansing is free and starts at 4:30 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.

Yankee Doodle Days starts at 6 p.m. Friday, runs all day Saturday (with a fireworks show at 10 p.m.), and through 5 p.m. on Sunday.

The Red Cedar Jubilee, which started on Monday, is also free. Events run all day Saturday, including a parade at 12:30 p.m. The festivities end Sunday with a pancake breakfast at 8 a.m. and a tractor pull at 11 a.m.

Be sure to bring water and sunscreen. The meteorologists at StormTracker 6 say temperatures will be in the upper 80's and low 90's and that it could be humid, as well.
