Suspect In Lucky's Robbery Not So Lucky

The guy accused of robbing Lucky's apparently wasn't very lucky.

Lansing police say there were some officers on patrol along the 1900 block of East Kalamazoo St. on Thursday night when they saw a man wearing with a bandanna around his face and a pair of gloves running across the street, right in front of him.

As they chased him, they got word on from dispatchers that someone with a knife had just tried to rob Lucky's party store, which was right nearby. The description of the suspect matched the guy they were chasing.

After several blocks, police say the suspect pulled a knife. Officers used a Taser on him, which apparently didn't have any effect. The chase continued until the officers tracked him down along the 300 block of Fairview. That's where they say the suspect resisted arrest.

Police say the found the knife and took the suspect into custody.

It's the third robbery or attempted robbery at the store in the last week. And police say they haven't ruled out whether Frank William Schmidt - the man arrested Thursday night - is responsible for the other crimes

The 20-year-old Lansing man faces several charges including assault with intent to rob while armed, carrying a concealed weapon, and assaulting or resisting an officer.

Police say they haven't ruled out other charges.

A judge set Schmidt's bond at $50,000. He's scheduled to be back in court next week.
