Couple Charged With Embezzling From A School

EAST LANSING, Mich. — The East Lansing Police Department was recently contacted by the Pinecrest Elementary Parent Teacher Council (PTC) regarding the potential embezzlement of PTC funds by the then-active treasurer.

ELPD began to look into the matter to determine if money was missing and underwent a criminal investigation after the treasurer resigned his position and failed to provide full records to the PTC. During its investigation, ELPD discovered that more than $7,700 was missing from the PTC fund.

On Friday, 47-year-old Robert Miller of East Lansing was charged with one felony count of embezzlement. His wife, 39-year-old Kimberly Miller of East Lansing, turned herself in on Friday and will be arraigned on a charge of felony larceny within the next 10 days.

To date, about $6,500 of the $7,700 originally stolen has been returned to the PTC.
