Balloonfest Soars in Howell

Posted:
HOWELL, MICH. (WLNS) -

The 29th annual Michigan Challenge Balloonfest is here once again at Howell High School with plenty of things to see and do with the family.

The excitement kicked off yesterday at 6 p.m., but continues today and Sunday. From 6-8 p.m. is when the mass balloon launch takes places. This is a competition where pilots try to maneuver their hot air balloons over an x-shaped target and drop what's like a small bean onto it. They are scored by how close their baggie gets to the target. The pilots are competing for the Michigan Challenge Champion title.

There is also an art festival and a carnival in conjunction with the balloonfest that you can visit as well. The carnival opens up at 10 a.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. and Sunday.

As darkness falls there will be a balloon glow then a skydiving night show will follow.
