LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)- For those planning to light-off your own fireworks this 4th of July, we have some safety tips for you to stay safe.
The National Council on Fireworks Safety wants to remind you to only use fireworks outside to keep a safe distance from the person setting them off and to never allow young children to handle any fireworks even sparklers.
When it comes to buying them, the State Of Michigan Fire Marshall urges you to buy from licensed retailers.
Also, remember you can ignite fireworks on personal property but it is illegal to ignite them on public property, that includes streets and sidewalks.
People aren't the only ones that should be kept safe this independence day if you have any pets make sure to keep them cool and away from the fireworks as much as you would children.
