Safe Driving This Holiday Weekend

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)- The Michigan State Police is reminding drivers to think about safety during their holiday travels this week as they participate in another year of C.A.R.E..

MSP troopers will join their counterparts from across the country in Operation C.A.R.E, an international traffic safety initiative. This operation was formed to minimize causes of highway fatalities.

Last year, over the Fourth of July holiday in Michigan, there were four fatal traffic crashes. Officials tell us that of the four people who died, three were not using a seat belt.

"Our goal is to prevent traffic crashes that lead to serious injuries and fatalities and troopers will take a zero-tolerance approach to drivers who are operating under the influence of alcohol and drugs...Troopers will also pay special attention to motorists who are not using proper restraints," said Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue, director of the MSP.
