‘Meals On Wheels’ Needs Volunteer Deliverers

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Lansing's Meals on Wheels program says it is in need of volunteers to help deliver prepackaged meals to elderly residents.

Right now, the program has close to 750 volunteers, but many of them only help out once a month. Each day, Meals on Wheels has 49 routes, bringing the monthly route total to more than 1,450.

"When I'm short on volunteers, I have to have people that I pay to go out and deliver food, and with the finance crunch that we've all been experiencing, that's very difficult for us," says Ruth Pell, nutrition director for the Tri-County Office on Aging.

Volunteers typically spend one to two hours delivering meals. Training takes about an hour. For more information, call 517-887-1440.
