Mosquitos Come Out In Full Force

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)- If you plan to be outside over the holiday weekend, you can expect some unwanted visitors and we are not talking about the in-laws.

Howard Russell is an Entomologist at Michigan State University and he says this year mid-Michigan has seen an unusually high amount of mosquitos across the area.

Russell says over 60 different species grow and thrive every year, and with this year's rainfall, you can expect the mosquitos will be out in swarms.

"Those low lying areas are where mosquitos lay their eggs and that's were the larvae develop and that's were the adult mosquitos come from and as long as there is water in low lying areas will produce generation after generation of mosquitoes," said Russell.

To keep mosquitos at bay this weekend, Russell suggests wearing the obvious repellant, wear loose clothing, and try to avoid being outside during peak mosquito time. They are at their peak normally at dusk, just in time for the fireworks.
