Protecting Children From Abduction

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)- New legislation is proposed aimed at protecting children from being abducted by their parents.

Senator Rick Jones is sponsoring the bill, which would establish the Uniform Child Abduction Prevention Act.

The act is meant to protect children from being abducted by their parents during divorce proceedings by setting standards to determine whether a child is at risk for abduction and providing remedies to prevent it.

"You would never see that child again. What a horrible tragedy for a parent. Divorce is a real tragic thing anyway, then fighting for custody, but when a parent abducts a child and goes to a foreign country, that's horrible," said Senator Rick Jones.

The bill remains on the senate floor and Jones is hoping for action as soon as September.
