JACKSON, Mich. (WLNS)- A Jackson woman is at the University of Michigan hospital after being hit by a car Monday evening.

Jackson police were originally called to the 900 block of south Milwaukee street for a report of shots being fired, but they got another call shortly after about a car running over a woman.

Officials say the driver of the car that hit the woman says he was trying to leave the area, because he heard multiple gunshots.

An unoccupied vehicle was found by officials, that had shooting damage at the scene, but are still searching for the man suspected to be involved with the shooting.

The woman that was hit did sustain serious injuries.
