Shiawassee Twn. Receives Grant For River Clean Up

SHIAWASSEE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A private grant will help pay for the removal of what remains of the Shiatown Dam on the Shiawassee River.

The Argus-Press of Owosso reports that the Saginaw Bay Watershed Initiative Network has awarded $62,500 for an engineering study on removing the remains of the concrete structure.

The remains of the dam are in Shiawassee County's Shiawassee Township, about 20 miles west-southwest of Flint.

The grant also will help pay for the restoration of the area surrounding the dam. Demolition of the dam started in 2012.
