Suspects Accused Of Stealing Metal From Bridge

IONIA, Mich. (WLNS)- After one of the oldest covered bridges in Michigan burnt down Sunday, two suspects attempted to take the metal off the remains.

According to Ionia County Sheriff's Officials, Tuesday afternoon a 33-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman from Orleans Township were caught taking over 300 pounds of metal from the remains of the White's Bridge in Otisco Township.

Officials stopped the pickup truck after they say the couple attempted to flee the area. The suspects are being held in the Ionia County Jail awaiting their arraignment date.

The cause of the fire that burnt down the bridge on Sunday is still under investigation.
