22 Homeless After Apartment Fire

DEWITT, Mich. (WLNS)- 22 mid-Michigan residents won't be sleeping in their own homes tonight. That's after flames ripped through their apartment building in DeWitt early Sunday morning.

The fire started around 3:15 A.M. at the Alana Woods apartment complex, near the intersection of Old 27 and Clark Road.

Firefighters battled the flames but couldn't stop the spread before the roof caved in.

In all, the fire destroyed 12 units. It took firefighters about 3 hours to put the flames out.

No one was hurt, but the building is a total loss.

The Red Cross is helping those families tonight by providing housing, food, and clothes.
