BRIGHTON, Mich. (WLNS) - A woman was killed Tuesday afternoon near Ann Arbor after police say she was on her cell phone.

It happened around 1p.m. near Barton Drive, going westbound on M-14.

A preliminary investigation showed Debra Jones, 49, of Chicago was driving alone when she tried to use the shoulder of the road to pass a semi. Officials say that's when she lost control of the vehicle, rolled it five times and struck the median wall twice.

Jones' husband stopped at the crash scene, made contact with Troopers and advised he was talking to to his wife on a cellphone when she advised him she was going to use the shoulder of the road to pass a vehicle.

She was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash and alcohol was not believed to be a factor. Jones was pronounced deceased at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved in this crash.
