DEWITT, Mich. (WLNS) - Police say a DeWitt apartment fire that left 23 people homeless was started by a man who not only lived in the complex, but was also a DeWitt Fire Department Trainee since October 2012.

It happened early morning on Sunday, July 14.

Matthew Landfair, 36, was charged with first degree arson for intentionally setting fire to the Alana Woods Apartment Complex.

The July 14th blaze destroyed 12 units, leaving the building a total loss. Thankfully, no one was hurt.

Landfair is being held in the Clinton County Jail.

Shelby Miller is following this story and will have more tonight on 6 News.
