OKEMOS, MICH. (WLNS) -

Mid-Michigan bundled up in the chilly weather this morning and laced up their shoes for a 5K run for a great cause.

"Ele's Race" took place at Jackson National Life Headquarters in Okemos and over 14 hundred took part in the event.

The 10th annual race raised money for "Ele's place" a healing center for grieving children and teens as they cope with the loss of a parent, sibling or loved one.

"Its so important that children don't feel alone in their loss," said Lori Bosh, managing director for Ele's Place. "And that's what ele's race is all about. Helping children through their grief and ele's place provides those programs at no cost."

Organizers predict the event raised more than 70 thousand dollars.
