Furniture Donation Project Gives Items To Local Charities

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Charities known for giving recently got gifts of their own thanks to a new project in Lansing.

Developer Keith Brenan says his goal was to reuse, refurbish or recycle everything inside of an old hotel on Lansing's east side.

"We got desk lamps, desks, doors, all kinds of great items to help update our space," said Jillian Pastoor, Community Relations Coordinator at End Violent Encounters.

Brenan invited local charities to look around and take whatever they wanted. The hotel held everything from chairs to night stands, pictures, lamps and irons. The old hotel is currently being transformed into upscale housing for students.

"We run on private funding, so we are so thankful and grateful for anything we do receive," said Cheryl Motter, Director of Administration at City Rescue Mission of Lansing. This donation gave the City Rescue Mission of Lansing more than just a chair or two, try 20.

Over 100 items were donated, including things like dressers, refrigerators and bibles.

"This kind of quantity available to the community is an amazing gift. We can use it to help so many people in so many ways," said Susan Cancro, Executive Director at Advent House Ministries.
