LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - The 19-year-old Lansing man who was shot in a home on the 500 Block of South Pennsylvania Avenue early Wednesday morning has been identified.

Police have identified the victim as Giovanni Anistasio Yeje. He was killed after a fight that eventually ended in the shooting. Yeje did not live in the home, but knew the family.

Neighbors say it wasn't unusual for people to be coming and going during all hours of the night. "This is a street that never sleeps, so whoever did it, they were dumb for doing it. You're going to get caught," said neighbor Sheri Jones.

Yeje's death marks the eighth homicide in the city this year.

Friends remember his has an honest, down to earth guy, who wasn't like anyone else they'd ever met. "His uniqueness made him special because most people would hide from it or think of it as a reason to get picked on but not Gio. Gio he was happy to be who he was," said Michael Holmes, a friend and classmate of Yeje's.

Friends and family plan to hold a second candle light vigil on Thursday night for the loss of their loved one.
