LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - When it comes to professions that contribute the most to society, you may surprised to find out which jobs are at the top and the bottom of the list.
The Pew Researchers asked just over 4,000 adults in a nationwide survey which professions contribute a lot to society's well being.
At the very bottom of the list came lawyers. It stands to reason because in any legal suit, one of the attorneys is going to lose and their client is probably not happy.
Just above the lawyers are business executives. Only 24 percent of the citizens believe they contribute a lot to society.
Not doing much better are journalists. Third from the bottom, with only about three out of ten respondents believing reporters make a significant contribution. More women than men respect reporters and more democrats than republicans do as well.
Heading the list at 78 percent are members of the military, followed by teachers, in third place doctors and scientists rank fourth.
The support for the military cuts across all demographics.
(1) Women-80% Men-76%
(2) Ages 18-49: 77%
(3) GOP: 86%
(4) Dems: 75%
In an interesting twist, only 37 percent in the survey credit the clergy with helping to advance society. Those who attend church rank the clergy higher than those who don't.
But ironically, the one group the survey did not test was politicians.
