Police Seize $220,000 In Jackson County

JACKSON COUNTY, Mich. (WLNS) -- Troopers from the Michigan State Police Jackson post report Friday at 8:30 p.m. they pulled a driver over for "following too closely."

During the traffic stop, troopers said they noticed indications of criminal activity and asked the driver to search the vehicle. A K-9 Unit was brought to the scene, which found a suitcase in the trunk of the car.

Troopers said they asked the driver permission to cut the lock on the suitcase, which the driver granted. Inside of the suitcase, troopers located $220,000. They said the driver was unable to give them a logical explanation for the money.

The $220,000 was seized for forfeiture proceedings.

Officials believe this is the third largest Michigan State Police forfeiture in Jackson County history.
