Crash Leaves Motorcycle Driver In Critical Condition

BROOKLYN, Mich. (WLNS)-- An accident in Columbia Township leaves a motorcycle driver in critical condition.

Officials from the Columbia Township Police Department said the accident happened near M-50 and Brooklyn Road around 3:10 p.m. Saturday. There, a Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by an 82-year-old from Onsted, slowed to turn into a business when a southbound motorcycle, driven by a 31-year-old from Tipton, failed to stop and hit the back of the Trailblazer.

Columbia Township Rescue treated the motorcycle driver, who suffered serious injuries. A Survival Flight flew the driver of the motorcycle to the University of Michigan Hospital were officials said the driver was listed in critical condition as of Sunday morning.

A Lenawee Community Ambulance took the driver of the Trailblazer to Bixby Hospital to treat non-life threatening injuries.

A reconstructionist from the Michigan State Police department was called in to assist with the investigation. Also assisting on the scene was the Napoleon Township Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff's Department.

The accident remains under investigation.

Police do not believe alcohol was a factor in the accident.

The driver of the motorcycle was wearing a full face helmet.
