Vote Expected Tuesday On Health Care For 400K In Mich.

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - The governor and the Tea Party wing of the state GOP are headed for a showdown vote Tuesday on providing health care insurance to 400,000 families in Michigan.

Way back in June, a now infamous news conference, where the usually mild mannered governor shot back at Senate republican, take a vote not a vacation he admonished them, as they left town for two months.

Tuesday, the governor may get his vote on medicaid expansion and if the insiders are correct, it will likely pass. The Senate Democratic leader says she is ready to put up her 12 democratic votes, which means the Senate top leader has to find seven or eight votes. It appears the range of yes votes is between seven and ten, more than enough to pass the bill.

But the Tea Party, which is battling the governor on medicaid expansion, is telling republicans they don't have to vote on any of this.

"The Supreme Court has ruled we do not have to vote on this. We do no have to advance ObamaCare that will cost more money. We don't need to do that," said Todd Courser with the Tea Part.

There is speculation that if there is a 19-19 tie, Lt. Governor Brian Calley would vote yes to break the tie, but rather than allow the passage of the bill, the Tea Party may not allow a tie vote to materialize.

Calley predicts it won't come to a tie vote and in the end, passing this bill is the conservative thing to do.

"We save money by going to the private sector on Medicaid and so the federal deficit will be lower and we can make that case to most conservatives that this is the most conservative option that is available to us today," said Lt. Gov. Calley.

Tuesday, we'll see if at least 20 senators agree and indications are, they will--barring an 11th hour change of heart.
