Man Killed In Head On Collision Identified

WEBBERVILLE, Mich. (WLNS) - An 89-year-old Michigan man is dead after a semi vs. car crash in Webberville early Wednesday morning.

Police have indentified him as Lee Carl Woodbury of Orleans, Michigan.

Woodbury was driving the wrong way on westbound I-96 near the Stockbridge Road exit when he and a semi tractor-trailer collided. It happened around 3:15 a.m. at M-52 in Webberville. The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured.

Ingham County officials are not sure how long he was driving in the wrong direction, but say it looks like both vehicles tried to avoid each other at the last minute.

The crash caused fluid to spill on the highway. Environmental crews and the Michigan Department of Transportation were called to clean up the mess.

The westbout lanes of I-96 were closed for more than 6 hours this morning and traffic was being re-routed to exit the highway at exit 122, the Stockbridge/Webberville exit. All lanes are back open at this time.
