Gilbert's Hardware Storage Building Collapses

Posted: Updated:

OWOSSO, Mich. (WLNS) - A hardware building used for storage collapsed Tuesday night due to the heavy rain.

It happened around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at Gilbert's Hardware in Owosso. No one was injured and no one was in the building at the time. The co-owner of the store believes there was about 1-foot of water on the roof when it collapsed. There was also a gas leak in the building, so the gas had to be shut off. This location stored the inventory for Gilbert's Hardware.

According to KC Gilbert, current co-owner alongside his brother Bill, Gilbert's Hardware is a family-owned business that has been around for 48 years. KC's parents bought the business back in 1965.

Gilbert's Hardware is still open and serving customers, but without a lot of their paint and other supplies stored in the back area of the building.
