Stabenow To Unveil High-Skilled Job Training Plan

Posted: Updated:

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow is set to unveil a plan in suburban Detroit that's aimed to help train workers for high-skilled jobs.

The Michigan Democrat will provide details about the legislation Tuesday at Oakland Community College's Advanced Technology Center in Auburn Hills. Her office says the New Skills for New Jobs Act would build on efforts in Michigan and several other states that are helping community colleges work with local businesses to provide worker training.

Businesses have said that they are having trouble finding workers for many skilled jobs.

The Michigan Community College Association also is expected to release a report at the event outlining the progress of the Michigan New Jobs Training Program. Stabenow's office says the program has trained thousands of state workers for high-skilled jobs.
