Stabenow Announces Job Training Initiative

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow addressed a group Wednesday afternoon at Lansing Community College with her plan to put more people to work.

She drafted a bill called, "The New Skills For New Jobs Act." The idea is to implement more job training programs at community colleges in order to help train workers for high-skilled and high-paying jobs. The colleges would get reimbursed with federal dollars.

"I've spoken to numerous employers and they need employees with real skill. it's the quickest way to get back to work," said Stabenow.

The act hopes to fill the 600,000 job openings currently available in Michigan. The program has already partnered with 44 local businesses and trained more than 10,000 workers.
