Report: Nearly 1 In 7 Mich. Households Faces Hunger

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Michigan faces an issue that may be much worse than meets the eye - hunger. The problem affects nearly 1 in 7 Michigan homes.

 

More than 500,000 homes reported serious problems with affording adequate, nutricious food last year.

In Michigan, over 13 percent of households faced hunger in 2012, a dramatic jump from just over 9 percent in 2002.

Nationally, 17.6 million homes, which accounts for 14.5 percent of the total population, reported food insecurity.
