Man Saves His Home After Running From Police

Posted: Updated:

EATON COUNTY, Mich. (WLNS) - In a bizarre turn of events, an Eaton County man may have saved his own home from a fire because he ran from the police. It all started Thursday night on Kalamo Highway near Tirrell Road in Charlotte. Sheriff's say the 83-year-old man was stopped on the side of the road with one headlight out. When a deputy pulled over to check on him, the man yelled something police could not understand, they say it sounded like "gibberish" and then he sped off.

Deputies tried to stop him, but he continued driving the 2 and a half miles to his home on Battle Creek Road where while he was in custody and being questioned, one of the deputies noticed his house was on fire.

It turns out the fire was in the attic and the fire department had the fire out quickly. The man was eventually taken to jail.

The Eaton County Sheriff's office believes the man ran from police because he had oustanding warrants. The house will need some repairs before the man can move back in.
