Child Dies Following Serious Accident On I-96

UPDATE: Eaton County has confirmed the child in one of the vehicles has died. Officials say the child died in the hospital around 7p.m. from injuries sustained in the earlier crash.

EATON COUNTY, Mich. (WLNS) - I-96 between W Saginaw Hwy and I-496 is temporarily closed in both directions due to an accident.

The roads are all back open as of around 6:15p.m.

It happened around 1:30p.m. Wednesday. Officials say two SUV's were involved with two people in each car. Of the four people, three were taken to the hospital, including one mother with serious injuries and a child in critical condition. The third person is expected to survive.

The Eaton County Sheriff's Office says one car rolled several times in the median with one person being ejected from the car.

Officials are still investigating the cause of the crash.
